Gold Coast Underwater Grand Prix July 29-31

Race Description

South Florida Diving Headquarters has teamed up again this year with Formula H20 to host  the 2nd race on the Wreck Racing League tour. We have added some additional races this year and a great kickoff party at the Wyndham Sea Gardens Resort.

You have heard of NASCAR well this is NASCOOTER! We set up a race track underwater and participants race around the course on Diver Propulsion Vehicles (DPV). 

 

There are categories for all makes and models and awards will be given for each race. There will also be a separate race for Freedivers and a special race for Disabled Veterans.

 

Please give back to America's Wounded Heroes by making a donation to Diver's 4 Heroes Underwater Race Team . Use the following code in the note section D4H URT. The donation you make will help sponsor a disabled racer that might not otherwise have an opportunity. You can also help by donating the use of a DPV.

 

If you don't have a DPV don't feel left out this is a great spectator event, but you do have to get wet! We have moved the course in shallower to the wreck of the Copenhagen. Spectators can either snorkel and watch from above or you can use SCUBA and watch from the infield below. Spectators will be able to listen to the race in the water, being broadcast live through a Self Contained Underwater Broadcast System (SCULS).

Racer Information

 

Friday is final registration, racer's meeting and kickoff party from 6:30-10:00 pm. There will be a buffet, soft drinks and a cash bar, followed by music & dancing. Everyone is welcome to attend.

 

Saturday a DPV Certification Class will be held in the morning at the Ocean Point  Resort pool. Saturday afternoon racers will have an opportunity to run the course and practice, followed by a fun dive.

 

Sunday is race day, the races will be in the morning and the awards ceremony will take place at the marina pool following all participants returning.

Spectator Information 

Friday, spectators are invited to attend the racer's meeting and kickoff party at the Wyndham Sea Gardens Resort (convention room upstairs above lobby) starting at 6:30 PM. Come out and meet some of the racers and pick your favorite. There will be food and drinks available throughout the evening and don't forget your dancing shoes.

Saturday divers & snorkelers are invited on the practice boats where scooter representatives will be on hand for demos. You can run the same course as the racers. The second dive will be a drift on a reef where demos will be available as well. Trip leaves at 1:00 PM.
