Okinawa Sinking & Dive

Join us August 19th and welcome Shipwreck Park's upcoming attraction, the Okinawa!

The Okinawa is scheduled for deployment August 19th at 10:00 AM. We are offering 2 different trips to watch the sinking and dive.

  • The Black Pearl will be leaving at 8:00 AM and diving the Lady Luck. Following the dive we will watch the Okinawa go down and then dive it. Reservations
  • The Aqua View will depart at 8:00 AM for a drift dive lobster hunting then watch the Okinawa sinking followed by another reef dive. Reservations

The Okinawa was purchased by Shipwreck Park Inc. thanks to the generous donations from Finlandia Vodka and local sponsors. Finlandia is very active in clean water and environmental projects. The tug is being cleaned and prepped in the Miami River for her final voyage to Shipwreck Park Pompano Beach.

In keeping with Shipwreck Park's theme of adding cultural art to artificial reefs, the Okinawa will get a a full size "dive bar" on the upper deck. Artist Dennis McDonald has created a bar built on a coral maze with Moray eels swimming along the base. What underwater bar would be complete without a mermaid bar tender!

The Okinawa will be on display Friday at Hillsboro Inlet Park Friday 2700 N. Ocean Blvd, Pompano Beach.

The Okinawa (LT-1970) was an Army Tug.

  1. I have been scuba diving with South Florida Diving Headquarters for 14 years! Their entire staff from Boat Captains, Dive Masters to front office" Katlynn" are simply the best! they know how to take care their customers. To include assisting divers that need special help getting in or out of the water to helping other dive boats. SFDHQ go beyond your average dive boat!
