Stepping Stone North

Type of Dive: Drift Reef on a Reef

Depth Range: 25-35 ft

Skill Level: Open Water Diver

Location: Boynton Beach (near shore)

Description: The reef was deployed on August 13, 2013 The project area covers approximately 7500 square feet in 35 feet of water. Two pre-fabricated concrete reef modules were installed at the north end of the reef and 910 tons of large limestone boulders were used to create the remaining section of reef. The distance from the ocean floor to the top of the reef varies with the highest point being 8 feet in some areas. The structure provides habitat for hundreds of species of fish, crustaceans, and other marine organisms. It is also an excellent location for beginning divers and snorkelers.

Navigation: Current is generally less of a factor here so the best way to navigate this area is in a circle or zig zaging across the reef.
