Specialty Scuba Certification

Scuba diving can give you a lifetime of memories. However, once you learn the basics of diving, you'll probably want to hone your dive skills. Refined skills can open the door for many different kinds of diving.

Want to explore that shipwreck? Then you will want to learn how to navigate safely in and around a shipwreck by taking our Wreck Diving Speciality. How about taking the perfect shot to show off to your non-diving friends and family? Well, we have an underwater photography speciality that will do just that.

Other courses teach you how to keep our reef system healthy by perfecting your buoyancy or increasing your knowledge of the local environment.

Where ever you want diving to take you, there is a specialty dive course that will help you get there safely.

Enriched Air Diver (Nitrox) E-Learn

nitrox diver course informationThe PADI Enriched Air Diver course is our most popular specialty scuba course. Why? Longer Bottom Times. Shorter Surface Intervals. These are among the many benefits of diving Nitrox — a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen in which the concentration of oxygen is greater than that found in air. You’ve no doubt heard of Nitrox, probably know divers who use it. You also know that using Nitrox safely requires special training and certification.

The process is straightforward:

  1. You can call us at (800) 771-3483 or (954) 783-2299 to sign-up.
  2. Once enrolled you will have a sign-up code that you can use to go on line to begin your course.
  3. You can logout and leave the course at any time and return later to continue your learning, just login again.
  4. As soon as you are done with the self-study portion of the course, call or visit South Florida Diving Headquarters to schedule your practical application session. Here you will get hands-on experience with oxygen analyzers and Nitrox computers and take a short quiz.
  5. Optional Nitrox Dives (not included in course)

Wreck Diver

Who hasn’t dreamed of  being a treasure hunter, exploring wrecks for lost treasure?

Well maybe treasure is little hard to find but there are still plenty wrecks to explore. Nothing in diving gets your adrenaline pumping better than descending down on a wreck for the first time. As the wreck comes into view you conjure up images of sunken pirate ships, naval battles or the ships last fight with the sea.

Wrecks can be hazardous without the proper training. Most wrecks have sharp jagged edges, overhead structures, silt, and possible unstable areas that without the proper training can be dangerous.

The Wreck Diving Specialty Course will train you how to avoid these hazards with the proper gear and training.

Night Diver

Night diving is like diving the same reef for the first time. The day feeders go to sleep and the night feeders come alive.

The filter feeders extend their tentacles to capture food. The reef almost seems like it is moving as the tentacles sway back and forth in the current. Your high powered dive light illuminates the reef creating a brilliant display of colors. If you are lucky enough to catch a coral spawn you will be reminded of a volcano erupting. Some of the most basic skills (ascents, descents, navigation etc.) can become disorientating at night.

The Night Diving Specialty Course teaches you about night dive planning, equipment and navigation. You practice these on three night dives, plus introduce yourself to the whole new cast of critters that comes out after the sun goes down.

Underwater Photographer Specialty Course

The old saying “A picture says a thousand words” could never be more true about underwater photography. It is extremely hard to put into words the spectacular sites a diver encounters while diving. There is no better way to relive a spectacular dive than with photos.

Whether you’re a novice or a consummate photo pro, the Underwater Photographer course teaches you the basics as they apply to taking photos underwater, with a special emphasis on practical techniques.

Digital photography has revolutionized underwater photography. In the past you were lucky to get 3 or 4 good shots and you wasted a lot of film. With digital cameras you can shoot a picture view it and change settings all underwater. You never run out of film underwater because you can always delete!

Underwater Naturalist Specialty Course

Ever been fascinated watching a fish or part of the reef only to have no clue what the specie’s name is and then awkwardly try to describe it to someone?

Ever wonder what makes certain species behave the way they do? We all have. If you are fascinated by underwater life and their characteristics then the Underwater Naturalist Specialty Course is perfect for you.

The U/W Naturalist Course teaches you about the different major aquatic life groupings and how they interact so that you understand what you observe in the underwater environment.

Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course

Buoyancy is a skill most divers take for granted but few master.

Proper buoyancy can be the difference between a good dive and a bad dive. We’ve all done it jumped, in without enough weight and fought to stay down the whole dive.

Peak buoyancy helps you hover over the reef without touching or damaging the reef. Establishing good buoyancy is probably the most important skill a diver can have for reef conservation. Photographers need good buoyancy skills to avoid movement while taking pictures.

In the Buoyancy Specialty course, you will learn  how to precisely weight yourself for optimum control, poise and balance. You learn to ascend and descend so effortlessly, it seems like you only think about it and it happens. By mastering streamlining, you move through the water cleanly, efficiently and gracefully. You swim near fragile environments without harm to them or yourself.
