Open Water Scuba Certification

Have you dreamed of exploring beneath the surface of the water?  Do you want to know what it is like to be weightless?  Learning to dive in South Florida gives you the opportunity to experience both warm clear waters, and beautiful marine wildlife.  Boat rides to dive sites are just a few minutes away which gives you more time under the water.

Why train with SFDH?

  • Experience - Over 13 years of training divers in South Florida. Besides teaching, all our staff instructors work on the boats as well. You'll be learning from the pros that actually take you diving.
  • Convenience - Short boat rides, no shore diving required, and convenient classes.
  • No hidden costs - You pay for the training and course materials.  We include the boat fees and rental equipment.

3 Easy Steps to an Open Water Diver Certification

  1. Complete the course materials:  You can choose to complete your course materials via eLearning or in a classroom.  Both provide a complete scuba education.
  2. Pool Practice Session:  This is where the first transformation takes place. You will experience weightlessness in a silent world for the first time. During the practice session you will learn how to set up and adjust your equipment, skills development and safety procedures.
  3. Open Water Training Dives: First you learned to think like a fish, and then you learned to swim like a fish, now you’re ready to become one! The first picture in your mind as you descend down to the reef will forever be burned into memory. During your open water dives you will practice some of the skills you mastered in the pool and learn more about actual dive procedures and planning, while gaining confidence and experience

Yes, you need to know how to swim.  However, you don't need to be a master swimmer.  As long as you have basic swimming skills, and you feel comfortable in the water, then you should be good to go.  Our instructors will evaluate your swimming abilities.  If they feel as if you are not ready for scuba, they'll let you know.

Learning to dive with a friend or family member is just a lot more fun, but you are not required to bring a dive buddy with you.  Our instructors are happy to be your "buddy", or if you are in a group class, they will match you up with someone.
