Location:  Pompano Beach (outer reef)

Description:    like many South Florida Reefs, Lighthouse Ledge is a section of the outer reef, running parallel to the shoreline. The highest concentration of sea life and coral cover is on the western facing ledge (main ledge). A favorite reef for Dive Operators on rough days due to the close proximity to Hillsboro Inlet and Lighthouse. Ironically Lighthouse Ledge is one the best reefs in Broward County. In addition to the abundance of marine life, there are large soft corals adorning the northern hook in the reef. The reef was named after the Historic Hillsboro Lighthouse just in shore.

Navigation:  For a north current start out approximately 1/3 of the way up the reef and for a south current start at the north hook and drift along the main ledge. This is the best scenic route.  If you are lobstering sometimes it pays to venture to the deep side of the reef (east) to the Spur & Groove or to the false ledge to the west
